Grief Therapists

Work Environment

Generally, grief therapists work in office settings that are clean and well lighted. Grief therapists who work in crisis situations will find a wide variety of working environments, depending on the situation, but usually small, temporary offices are set up to accommodate counselors.

Counselors in private or group practice may have to set up evening and weekend office hours. Some grief counseling must be done on an emergency basis in times of crisis or violence, so there may be occasions when counselors have to drop everything to work any time of the day or night.

Many counselors stick to a given location to serve the local community. However, depending on the type and range of cases the therapist handles, travel may be necessary, including on nights and weekends.
