Manufacturing Engineering Technologists

Although employment in manufacturing is expected to increase by only 0.8 percent from 2023–33, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, there will continue to be job opportunities for manufacturing engineering technologists. Manufacturers will continue to need engineering technologists to monitor and develop manufacturing machinery and processes that improve productivity while reducing costs and maintaining product quality. Employment growth also depends on the industries in which engineering technologists work. For example, employment is expected to decline through 2033 in the following manufacturing industries: textile; paper; petroleum and coal products; and primary metal manufacturing. On the other hand, employment is expected to increase in computer and electronic product manufacturing (+6.6 percent), food manufacturing (+6.5 percent), and pharmaceutical and medicine manufacturing (+4.9 percent).

Those with a bachelor's degree, certification, and experience with computer-aided design and manufacturing software, as well as advanced artificial intelligence, will have the advantage in the job market.
