Unions and Associations

Some mechanical engineering technicians belong to unions such as the International Union of Electronic, Electrical, Salaried, Machine, and Furniture Workers; the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and the International Union, the United Automobile, Aircraft and Agricultural Implement Workers of America; the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, and the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace.

There are many other organizations that provide useful resources to engineering technicians. TheĀ American Society of Mechanical EngineersĀ is the primary professional association for mechanical engineering professionals. It offers networking opportunities, publications, continuing education classes and workshops, job listings, and other resources. The National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies offers certification to engineering technicians. Other useful organizations for engineering technicians include the American Society for Engineering Education, American Society of Certified Engineering Technicians, and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. ABET accredits postsecondary engineering technology education programs.
