Public Interest Lawyers

Unions and Associations

Public interest lawyers who are employed by the government can become members of the American Federation of Government Employees. Many lawyers join the Academy of Adoption and Assisted Reproduction Attorneys, American Bar Association, American Immigration Lawyers Association, National Association of Counsel for Children (NACC), National Association of Women Lawyers, National Employment Lawyers Association, or the National Legal Aid &  Defender Association. The National Board of Trial Advocacy, National Elder Law Foundation, and the NACC provide certification to public interest lawyers. Other important organizations for lawyers include the Association of American Law Schools, Equal Justice Works, Law School Admission Council, and the National Association for Law Placement.
