Employment for guards and other security personnel is expected to increase about as fast as the average, by 3 percent, through 2029, as public concern about crime, vandalism, and terrorism continues to grow. There may be a lag in employment growth into 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has caused an economic slowdown. Many businesses have reduced their budgets and staff, however, security guards will still be needed to protect people and property. Many job openings will be created as a result of the high turnover of workers in this field. Advanced in video surveillance may limit job growth to some degree for security guards. Those with extensive training and prior work experience will have better chances in the job market. Security guards with a background in law enforcement will have the best prospects.
