User Experience Designers

Outlook

Employment for industrial designers and graphic designers (careers that are related to that of UX designer) is expected to decline by 4 percent through 2029, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. However, those with a strong background in computer systems, computer-aided design, and drafting and computer-aided industrial design will have the best prospects for finding work. The coronavirus pandemic has had a major impact on most industries in 2020, with many businesses reducing staff and having employees on staggered work schedules. Most user experience designers are working remotely, conducting research and holding workshops through video platforms. Going forward, opportunities for UX designers should most closely mirror those of graphic designers in computer systems design and related services. Tech companies have realized that creating user-friendly products gives them an edge over their competition; the popularity of visually attractive and user-friendly products from Apple is one example of this trend.

According to The Creative Group, a marketing and creative industry staffing agency, “User experience designers are in particular demand. Firms now consider strong user interface design a must, not just a plus. Responsive design also is becoming a greater priority for businesses that want to provide customers with optimal experiences on their devices and browsers of choice.”
