JavaScript Developers

Work Environment

A survey of JavaScript developers in 2021 by PayScale.com found that 76 percent were “highly satisfied” with their careers. Many developers enjoy this occupation because of the high pay, strong employment demand, and the opportunity to be on the cutting-edge of technology. In 2021, U.S. News & World Report ranked the career of software developer (including JavaScript developers) as the second-best job in the United States as a result of its high earnings, strong employment, large number of job openings, and good work-life balance. The only ranking category that received a “fair” score was “workplace stress.” It received only a “6” out of “10” (the best numerical ranking). Factors that can create a stressful work environment include tight deadlines, unrealistic expectations by supervisors, coding and testing challenges, and too much overtime.

Developers may need to travel regularly to the offices of clients to discuss new projects or work on existing ones. Some developers consider this a plus, while others view this requirement as a downside of the job.
