Artificial Intelligence Ethicists

Employment Prospects

Employers

Many AI ethicists are employed by tech companies (including startups and established firms) that develop AI and businesses that regularly use this technology in their products and services. Some businesses have dedicated corporate responsibility departments that focus on ethical issues related to AI and other technology. Other employers include government agencies, the armed forces, and nonprofits (including think tanks).

Starting Out

Some people enter this career after first working as software developers, computer engineers, and in other technology positions. Others pursue college training in technology ethics and are hired after graduation. Aspiring AI ethicists can learn about job openings by attending career fairs, using the resources of their college’s career center, and by checking out job listings on the Web sites of their target employers.
