Exploring This Job

Participate in AI and general technology competitions to learn more about the field. Students between the ages of four and 20 can participate in the World Artificial Intelligence Competition for Youth, which challenges them to learn and use artificial intelligence technology to solve real problems. Recent competition tracks included AI Showcase (“create a project that showcases an AI solution for a real-world problem”), AI Generated Art, AI Large Language Model, and AI Generated Video. Visit https://www.waicy.org to learn more about the competition. The Technology Student Association, SkillsUSA, and other organizations also offer technology-related competitions for teens.

Talk with an AI trainer about his or her career. Ask your school counselor to help arrange an interview. Suggested interview questions include: What made you want to enter this career? What do you like most and least about your job? How did you train for this field? What are some key skills for success? What advice would you give to young people about preparing for the field and being successful on the job? How will advances in technology change the field? Perhaps you could even job-shadow an AI trainer to learn even more about the field.
