Indoor Environmental Health Specialists

Work Environment

Indoor environmental health specialists typically work a standard 40-hour week, Monday through Friday, but some employers schedule night and weekend hours to serve the needs of clients. Specialists spend a lot of time on site at client homes, businesses, or other structures. They also work in offices to evaluate data, create remediation plans, and meet with colleagues and clients regarding projects. Specialists work in areas where they may be exposed to biological and chemical hazards or dangerous electrical wiring or other mechanical hazards. To protect their health, they sometimes wear respirators, protective eyewear, and other safety gear.
