Aerospace Medicine Physicians

Certification, Licensing, and Special Requirements

Certification or Licensing

The American Board of Preventive Medicine, Council of the Aerospace Medical Association, and the American Osteopathic Board of Preventive Medicine provide voluntary certification in aerospace medicine. Applicants must meet educational and experience requirements and pass an examination. Contact these organizations for more information.

Many AMPs receive board certification in other clinical or surgical specialties such as emergency medicine, psychiatry, internal medicine, or surgery.

All states require physicians to be licensed. To become licensed, applicants must have graduated from an accredited medical school, completed residency training in their specialty, and passed a standardized national exam.
