Aerospace Medicine Physicians

Experience, Skills, and Personality Traits

An aerospace medicine physician typically has at least five years of experience in emergency medicine, internal medicine, or other applicable practice areas.

Aerospace medicine physicians must have top-notch communication and interpersonal skills because they need to both listen to patients and advise them regarding the steps they must take to protect their health and/or heal from illness or injury. Other important traits include confidence, a sincere concern for the well-being of others, honesty, integrity, and strong organizational, time-management, analytical, and leadership skills.

Opportunities are available throughout the country but are best in areas where NASA, private space companies, and other aviation/aerospace entities conduct research and test flights.
