Although you won’t be able to job shadow an AMP in most of their work environments, you should try to arrange an information interview with one. Ask the following questions, and try to develop your own, too.

• What made you want to become an aerospace medicine physician?
• How does your work environment differ from that of a traditional physician?
• What are the most important personal and professional traits for AMPs?
• What do you like and dislike about this career?
• How did you train for this field?
• Any advice on breaking into the field?

Other ways to learn more about the field of medicine and this specialty include:

• joining your school’s medical club
• participating in science-focused competitions and camps
• learning how to administer first aid and CPR
• landing a part-time job in a local medical office
