Aerospace Medicine Physicians

Outlook

Demand will continue to be strong for aerospace medicine physicians due to ongoing NASA programs that aim to once again land astronauts on the moon and visit Mars for the first time. Much research will be needed to ensure that astronauts can remain safe and healthy and perform mentally and physically during these challenging and lengthy missions. The continuing operation of the International Space Station and the commercial space industry's steady growth will create a strong demand for physicians with expertise in aerospace medicine.

It's important to remember that the field of aerospace medicine is small, and there is strong competition for job openings. On the other hand, there are many opportunities for physicians outside of aerospace medical research. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, job opportunities for physicians, including Aerospace Medicine Physicians, are expected to grow by 3 percent through 2032, about as fast as the average for all occupations.
