The Aerospace Medical Association reports that AMPs are employed in the following sectors:

• academic medicine: at academic medical centers, colleges and universities, and research organizations
• civilian government: with civil aviation authorities, civil space flight agencies, and accident investigation boards
• military: with any branch of the armed forces that has pilots
• private sector: with commercial aviation employers and commercial spaceflight employers, as well as travel medicine companies

Starting Out

Job leads can be obtained via contacts made during residency or fellowship programs or by applying directly to government agencies, organizations, and companies that employ aerospace medicine physicians. This is a relatively small field, so building a strong network of fellow students, professors, and residency and fellowship coordinators is key to staying “in the know” about potential job openings.
