Computer Support Service Owners

Outlook

Computer systems are extremely important to many businesses, and malfunctioning systems translate into lost revenue and worker productivity. As a result, there will be steady need for computer support workers. The U.S. Department of Labor says that "smaller [businesses] with minimal information technology requirements, may find it more cost effective to contract with outside firms for these services rather than to hire computer support specialists directly." Additionally, lower prices for computer hardware and software will inspire businesses to expand their systems, and to invest in the services needed to keep them up and running. As computer programs become more sophisticated and are able to perform more complex operations, consultants will be needed to help clients operate these programs. With companies relying more on complex computer systems, they will be less likely to take risks in the installation of hardware and software. To stay at the top of the industry, consultants will have to keep up on technological developments and take continuing education courses.

Those with a bachelor’s degree, work experience, strong management acumen, and good technical and communication skill will have the best job prospects.
