Computer Support Service Owners

Outlook

Job opportunities for self-employed computer support specialists are expected to grow 10 percent from 2018 to 2028, faster than the average for all occupations, according to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). Computer systems are extremely important to many businesses, and faulty systems translate into lost revenue and worker productivity. As a result, there will be strong need for computer support workers. Additionally, lower prices for computer hardware and software will inspire businesses to expand their systems, and to invest in the services needed to keep them up and running. As computer programs become more sophisticated and are able to perform more complex operations, consultants will be needed to help clients operate these programs. With companies relying more on complex computer systems, they will be less likely to take risks in the installation of hardware and software. To stay at the top of the industry, consultants will have to keep up on technological developments and take continuing education courses.
