Computer Support Service Owners

Work Environment

Most computer support businesses are based in a home office or a rented commercial space. Computer support service owners spend a lot of time sitting at their own computer, managing their accounts and records, but the majority of their time will be in the offices of their clients. In either setting, the work environment will likely be quiet and well lit. The work will be indoors, though support service owners travel from office to office throughout the day.

When installing and repairing computer hardware, support service owners may have to crawl around or behind desks to hook up wires and plug in cords. This work is essentially unsupervised, but some clients may ask to receive instruction and information about the repairs or upgrades being made, or about new hardware or software. In some cases, support service owners may work as part of a team, particularly if they are brought into a large company with a full-time support staff.

Some consultants work much more than 40 hours a week, though support service owners can avoid this by developing strong business management skills.
