Internet Developers

Outlook

Employment for Web developers is expected to grow by 8 percent through 2033, according to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), or faster than the average for all careers. This strong outlook is mainly due to the continuing popularity of e-commerce and the growing popularity of mobile devices (which have created a need for specialized mobile-friendly Web sites). Also, as more and more companies look to expand their business worldwide, they need technically skilled employees to create the sites to bring their products, services, and corporate images to the Internet.

Certification and graduate degrees will continue to be important in this career. Postsecondary training in Web development and Internet technology continues to grow, including graduate degrees in information design, informatics, interactive arts, human-computer interaction, and communication design. Jobs will be plentiful in the coming years for anyone with this specialized training.
