The lowest paid 10 percent of recreational therapists earned less than $37,960 a year, while the highest paid 10 percent earned more than $92,080 annually. Employment setting is also an important factor in determining salary. Recreational therapists employed by nursing and residential care facilities earned median annual incomes of $47,480. Those employed by hospitals (state, local, and private) earned $60,220, while those who worked for ambulatory health care services earned $52,540. Consultants and educators may earn higher salaries.
