Median annual earnings for salaried technical writers were $80,050 in May 2023, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Salaries ranged from less than $48,630 to more than $129,440. Technical writers who worked for computer and peripheral equipment manufacturers earned the highest salaries ($113,880).

Editors of all types earned a median salary of $75,020 in May 2023. The lowest paid 10 percent received $38,790 or less and the highest paid 10 percent earned $138,920 or more. Fifty percent of all editors earned between $51,810 and $101,100.
