Product Designers

Work Environment

Product designers typically work in traditional business offices or design studios. Their work area may be situated in close proximity to production areas in order to facilitate easy interactions with manufacturing workers.

Designers typically work a standard 40-hour week, Monday through Friday but—like workers in other professions—they may need to work at nights and on weekends to meet project deadlines.

Some designers may need to travel to the offices and production facilities of clients or potential clients.

The majority of product designers enjoy their careers. In fact, 76 percent of designers who were surveyed by PayScale.com in 2021 reported being “highly satisfied” with their occupational choice.
