Embedded Systems Engineers

Unions and Associations

Some embedded systems engineers are represented by SPEEA (formerly known as the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace), the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, and other unions. Many professional associations provide useful resources, including job listings, networking opportunities, publications, mentor programs, and annual conferences. Some associations have councils or subgroups for those who specialize in embedded systems—including the Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group on Embedded Systems. Other noteworthy organizations include IEEE Computer Society, National Society of Professional Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, and associations at the state and local levels. ABET accredits postsecondary engineering education programs.
