The Association of Energy Engineers conducted a survey of its members (which include engineers, executives, educators, and others in the energy field) in 2024. It found that 62 percent of its members earned between $100,000 and $199,999. Salaries ranged from $10,000 to $300,000 or more.

The DOL does not provide comprehensive salary information for renewable energy engineers. It does provide salary data for engineers in all industries. It reports that engineers, by specialty, earned the following salary ranges in May 2024: chemical, $78,520 to $182,150+; industrial, $70,000 to $157,140+; materials, $68,040 to $172,000+; and mechanical, $68,740 to $161,240+. Electrical engineers earn a median salary of $111,910, with the lowest 10 percent earning $74,670, and the highest 10 percent earning $74,670 $175,460 or more.
