Certification or Licensing

The American Health Information Management Association offers the certified health data analyst (CHDA) credential to candidates who pass an examination. To be eligible to sit for the CHDA examination, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: have a bachelor’s degree or higher degree from an accredited college or university OR hold a registered health information technician or registered health information administrator credential (both of which are available from AHIMA). Preferred, but not required, qualifications include a “minimum of three years of health care data experience and experience in data acquisition, data analysis, data management, data interpretation and reporting, and data governance.” Visit https://www.ahima.org for information.

Certification credentials are provided by other professional associations (e.g., DAMA International, INFORMS, Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals, TDWI) and software developers (such as Microsoft and SAS).
