Health Data Analysts

Unions and Associations

Health data analysts do not belong to unions, but there are many professional associations at the national, state, and local levels. These organizations offer everything from membership, networking events, and training opportunities, to certification, publications, career resources, and annual conferences. The American Health Information Management Association is one of the best-known organizations for analysts. It offers membership (including for college students), certification, continuing education (CE) classes and webinars, extensive information on careers, and scholarships, among other resources. The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society offers membership (including for college students), certification, and CE opportunities. The Association for Computing Machinery publishes XRDS (a magazine for students), ACM Transactions on Knowledge Discovery from Data, and the Journal of Data and Information Quality; hosts more than 170 conferences and other events worldwide; has a Special Interest Group on Management of Data; and provides information on education and careers on its Web site. Women in Analytics offers free and low-cost membership options, publishes a monthly newsletter, offers a podcast and blog, and hosts the Women in Analytics & DataConnect Conference. Other noteworthy organizations include the American Mathematical Society, American Statistical Association, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, DAMA International, Data Science Association, Healthcare Data and Analytics Association, IEEE Computer Society, INFORMS, and TDWI.
