Sales Managers

Earnings

The median annual earnings for sales managers were $138,060 in May 2024, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The lowest paid 10 percent earned $66,910 or less, while the highest paid 10 percent earned $239,200 or more.

Salary levels vary substantially, depending on the level of responsibility, length of service, and type, size, and location of the company. Top-level managers in large companies can earn much more than their counterparts in small companies. Also, salaries in large metropolitan areas, such as New York City, are higher than those offered in smaller cities. Most sales managers receive a combination of salary and commissions or salary plus bonuses.

Benefit and compensation packages for managers are usually excellent, and may even include such things as bonuses, stock awards, and company-paid insurance premiums.
