Customer Service Representatives

Outlook

Employment for customer service representatives is expected to decline by 5 percent through 2033, according to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), due to increasing automation. Telephone call centers are expected to offer the most job opportunities. Despite this prediction, the customer service industry is a large field and many replacement workers are needed each year as customer service reps leave this job for other positions, retire, or leave for other reasons. The DOL says that "some companies will continue to use in-house service centers to differentiate themselves from competitors, particularly for complex inquiries such as refunding accounts or confirming insurance coverage."

For customer service representatives with specific knowledge of a product or business, the outlook is good, as quick, efficient customer service is valuable in any business. Additional training and education will also make finding a job as a customer service representative an easier task.
