Receptionists

Overall employment for receptionists is expected to decline by 1 percent from 2023 through 2033, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH). The OOH says that job opportunities are "expected to decline as organizations continue to automate or consolidate administrative functions. For example, many organizations use computer software, Web sites, mobile applications, or other technology to interact with the public or customers."

Despite this prediction, many openings will occur due to the occupation's high turnover rate. About 137,800 openings for receptionists are projected each year, on average, through 2033. There will be many open positions in the health care industry because a large number of receptionists work in this field and many are expected to retire or leave the for other reasons during the next decade. Demand should be good for receptionists who are employed at warehousing and storage facilities; at real estate and rental and leasing offices; and at museums, historical sites, and similar institutions.
