Information Security Analysts

Experience, Skills, and Personality Traits

Students should obtain as much experience in the field as possible by participating in summer internships and part-time jobs at computer security firms, government agencies that focus on digital security, or other organizations that employ information security analysts.

To be successful, analysts need the skills that are most important to hiring managers. The 2024 (ISC)² Global Information Security Workforce Study explains: "The top skills hiring managers are looking for today are strong problem-solving, teamwork, collaboration, curiosity and communication. These skills ranked higher than technical skills like cloud computing security, risk assessment, analysis and management and AI.

Other top skills include project management, time management, strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, and leadership abilities.
