The earnings of engineering technicians vary widely depending on skills and experience, the type of work, geographical location, and other factors. The U.S. Department of Labor reports the following mean earnings for engineering technicians by specialty in May 2023:

  • aerospace engineering, $81,280
  • civil engineering, $63,770
  • electrical and electronic engineering, $74,440
  • environmental engineering, $67,990
  • industrial engineering, $66,640
  • mechanical engineering, $67,990

Salaries ranged from less than $39,120 for the lowest 10 percent to $113,970 or more annually for the top 10 percent.

Engineering technicians generally receive premium pay for overtime work on Sundays and holidays and for evening and night shift work. Most employers offer benefits packages that include paid holidays, paid vacations, sick days, and health insurance.
