Chief Information Security Officers

Chief information security officers are not members of unions. But many join or otherwise use the resources of professional IT associations. For example, the Association for Computing Machinery provides information on education and careers at its Web site; publishes ACM Transactions on Privacy and Security; hosts more than 170 conferences and other events worldwide; and has Special Interest Groups on Security, Audit, and Control; Information Technology Project Management; and other fields. It also offers membership for high school and college students, who receive a subscription to XRDS (a magazine for students) and access to scholarships and competitions. The IEEE Computer Society publishes IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing, offers continuing education classes, and provides membership to college students. The Information Systems Security Association offers a pre-professional membership category for college students who have an interest in cybersecurity; publishes ISSA Journal; and offers professional development opportunities. Other noteworthy organizations include CompTIA, EC-Council, Global Association of Risk Professionals, ISACA, ISC2, RIMS—The Risk Management Society, RMA-The Risk Management Association, SANS Institute, and SNIA.
