Electronics Engineers

Electronics engineers usually work a five-day, 40-hour workweek, although overtime is occasionally required to meet deadlines on projects. Those who work in research and development, or in supervisory or management positions, may need to work nights and weekends at various times to handle production requirements. Electronics engineers also participate in professional associations and pursue additional training during their free time. Many high-tech companies allow flex-time, which means that workers can arrange their own schedules within certain time frames.

Electronics engineers work in fairly comfortable environments, spending time in offices and part of the time in production facilities as required. Engineers involved in research and design may work in specially equipped laboratories. Travel may be involved, depending on the job. Electronics engineers working for large corporations may travel domestically and/or internationally to other plants and manufacturing companies.

Engineering professors spend part of their time teaching in classrooms, part of it doing research either in labs or libraries, and some of the time still connected with industry.
