Most employers prefer to hire technologists who have a degree in electrical engineering technology and one to two years of work experience.

Electrical engineering technologists are analytical thinkers who use logic to identify and solve problems. They have strong knowledge of math and are well versed in various software programs, such as computer-aided design software. Technologists understand engineering science and technology applications, have strong knowledge of computers and equipment, and know how to create and read blueprints, drawings, and other technical plans. They are able to work independently and on teams with other professionals. The job also requires good reading and listening skills. People who do best in this type of work are realistic, investigative, and dependable.
