Electrical Engineering Technologists

Outlook

Employment for electrical and electronics engineering technicians is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all careers through 2033, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook. Electrical engineering technologists who work in manufacturing will see slower-than-average employment growth that corresponds to the decline in many manufacturing sectors in the United States and increased competition from foreign countries. Faster employment growth is expected in the engineering services sector, however, as companies aim to reduce costs by contracting out their engineering services.

There will also be job opportunities for electrical engineering technologists in computer systems design services. Technologists will be needed to help meet the ongoing demand for computer, cell phone, and global positioning systems that are used in automobiles and various electronic and electrical devices. Electrical engineering technologists with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering technology or related field, practical work experience, and certification will have better chances of securing work.
