Health Informaticists

Health informatics professionals are not members of unions, but many join professional associations that offer useful resources such as networking events, publications, training opportunities, and certification. Major informatics-related associations include the American Health Information Management Association, American Medical Informatics Association, American Nursing Informatics Association, and the Association Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. Some industry associations have subdivisions or groups for health informaticists. For example, the American Society for Information Science and Technology has a Health Informatics Special Interest Group and the Medical Librarians Association has a Medical Informatics Section.

Women in Analytics offers free and low-cost membership options, publishes a monthly newsletter, offers a podcast and blog, and hosts the Women in Analytics & DataConnect Conference.

Other noteworthy organizations include the American Mathematical Society, American Statistical Association, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, DAMA International, Data Science Association, Healthcare Data and Analytics Association, INFORMS, and TDWI.
