Internet Security Specialists

Employment for Internet security specialists will increase by 32 percent (much faster than the average for all occupations) from 2018 to 2028, according to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). The number of companies with a presence on the Internet is growing rapidly on a worldwide basis. As these companies connect their private networks to the public Internet, they will need to protect their confidential information. Highly publicized Internet security breaches like the one that occurred with Sony Corporation, Target Corporation, and Equifax have led to the demand for higher level security at most companies and increasing the need for these professionals. Demand will also be very strong in the health care industry because of the increasing use of electronic medical records and the need to protect patients' privacy and keep their private data safe from hackers. Employment in this sector is expected to grow by more than 27 percent through 2028, according to the DOL.
