Internet of Things Developers

History

In 1999, the phrase “Internet of Things” was coined by the computer scientist Kevin Ashton to describe a system where the Internet is connected to the physical world via sensors. Ashton, who worked at Procter & Gamble at the time, proposed putting radio-frequency identification (RFID) chips on products to track them as they moved through a supply chain. It soon became clear that sensors, cameras, and other data-gathering technology could be attached to or otherwise incorporated into countless products. In 2016, the concept of the Industrial Internet of Things emerged to refer to the use of IoT technology in factories and other industrial settings (especially in regard to instrumentation and control of sensors and devices that engage cloud technologies, according to Oracle). In recent years, the growth of the IoT has been fueled by the availability of affordable and reliable sensors, the emergence of cloud computing platforms, and advances in machine learning, data analytics, and conversational artificial intelligence. Oracle says that “advances in neural networks have brought natural-language processing to IoT devices (such as digital personal assistants Alexa ... and Siri) and made them appealing, affordable, and viable for home use.” These trends have fueled demand for skilled developers to design, build, and maintain IoT technologies.
