Internet of Things Developers

The U.S. Department of Labor does not provide a job outlook for IoT developers, but it does report that job opportunities for software developers are expected to increase 17 percent through 2033. This is much faster than the average for all careers. The DOL says that “increased demand for software developers, software quality assurance analysts, and testers will stem from the continued expansion of software development for artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, robotics, and other automation applications.”

The number of connected devices is expected to grow worldwide by nearly double from 2023 through 2029, according to the research group Statista. “This growth is expected to be driven by an increase in short-range IoT (Internet of Things) devices, with more than 28 billion such devices forecast before the end of the decade. Connected devices include items such as wearables, connected cars, and smart sensors."
