Corporate Climate Strategists

Outlook

Growing public concern about damage to the environment caused by manufacturing processes, mining, and other industrial activities is leading more companies to seek help from corporate climate strategists (CCSs), so the employment outlook is bright. However, the concept of creating a position specifically for reducing a company's carbon footprint is relatively new.

It's important to remember that the corporate sector's emphasis on reducing its "environmental footprint" and running businesses in a more sustainable way is tied to public pressure (which is expected to remain steady in coming years) and government regulation (which varies by administration and political party). Opportunities for corporate climate strategists and other environmental professionals may decline if Congress amends or repeals environmental laws in the future or passes environmentally unfriendly legislation. On the other hand, more CCSs will be needed if the public continues to maintain pressure on companies to become more "green" and elected officials support environmentally-friendly legislation.
