At the low end of the pay scale, 10 percent earned less than $55,280 per year, and at the high end, 10 percent earned more than $148,210 annually. Salaries vary by employment specialty. The DOL reports the following mean annual earnings for biomedical engineers by specialty:

  • navigational, measuring, electromedical, and control instruments manufacturing: $110,370
  • scientific research and development services: $101,570
  • medical equipment and supplies manufacturing: $95,130
  • electronic and precision equipment repair and maintenance: $81,760
  • colleges, universities, and professional schools: $78,480.
