Information Technology Infrastructure Engineers

Unions and Associations

Infrastructure engineers do not typically belong to unions, but they can join professional associations such as the Association for Computing Machinery, CompTIA, DevOps Institute, IEEE Computer Society, and Cloud Computing Association. These organizations provide continuing education classes and webinars, online and in-person networking opportunities, certification programs, publications, and other resources. Some associations provide membership categories for students. For example, the Association for Computing Machinery offers membership to high school and college students. Members receive a subscription to Communications of the ACM and XRDS (the organization’s magazine for students). College student members of CompTIA receive career advice, access to award and scholarship opportunities, and discounts on association products. The IEEE Computer Society also offers membership to college students. CompTIA, (ISC)², DevOps Institute, other associations, and tech companies offer certification to IT professionals.
