Internet Consultants

Work Environment

Internet consultants work in a variety of settings. Depending on the project, independent consultants may work out of their homes or private offices. At other times, they may be required to work onsite at the client's facilities, which may, for example, be a hospital, office building, or factory. Consultants employed by a large or small consulting firm may also spend time working at the consulting firm's offices or telecommuting from home.

Internet consultants generally can expect to work in a clean office environment. Consultants may work independently or as part of a team, depending on the project's requirements.

Consulting can be a very intense job that may require long hours to meet a project's deadline. Some settings where employees or consultants are driven by a strict deadline or where a project is not progressing as planned may be stressful. Many people in the computer field work over 40 hours a week. including nights and weekends. In addition, Internet consultants must spend time keeping current with the latest technology by reading trade journals, participating in classes and webinars, and by attending trade shows. Intensive computer work can result in eyestrain, hand and wrist injuries, and back pain.
